Catalog
All accepted work will be reproduced in a full color catalog. A $10 hanging and publication fee will be applied to all accepted work and is required for inclusion in the catalog. Each accepted artist will receive one catalog at no additional charge. The catalog will also be made available as a low-res PDF online after the show closes. Participation in the show and catalog gives the R.I.C. permission to reproduce work from the show for promotional purposes only.
Awards
Gold, Silver and Bronze awards will be presented for the works judged to be the best in each category.
The Phillip B. Meggs Award for excellence in design will be chosen by Elizabeth and Libby Meggs, and will be presented to the piece that they feel displays the strongest design sensibility in an illustration. The Phillip B. Meggs Award is presented in honor of the late Phillip Meggs: graphic designer, professor, historian and author.
Mr. Meggs authored “A History of Graphic Design,” often referred to as the most important book on the subject. He chaired the department of Communication Arts and Design at VCU from 1974 to 1987 and it was under his tenure that illustration was added to the department as a major. Many club members were fortunate enough to learn from or work with Mr. Meggs during his time at VCU.
Exhibition
The pieces selected will be on display at Ghostprint Gallery during the month of June, 2012. An official opening reception will be held Thursday May 31, as well as Friday June 1st in conjunction with Richmond’s First Friday’s artwalk.
For this show, the gallery will not be taking a commission on sold work, so 100% of the proceeds from work sold go to the artist.
How To Enter
Entries must be submitted through the online form.
Images must be 700 px on the longest side, RGB, 72dpi, JPEG format.
Fees
$30 for the first entry
$5 for each additional entry (i.e. if you enter two pieces, your total entry fee will be $35, three pieces $40, four pieces $45, etc.)
Eligibility
Illustrators 18 years or older. Any illustrated 2-D or 3-D work (not to exceed 36” in width and/or 48” in height) that has not previously been accepted into a Richmond Illustrators Club show (juried or invitational). International entries are welcome. Please be certain that the original art will be available for exhibition and can remain at Ghostprint from May 31 – June 26, 2012. High-quality prints will be hung in the case of digitally created art only.
Categories
This year, entries must be entered into one of two categories – Commissioned or Uncommissioned. Commissioned work does not need to have been published, only commissioned (i.e. if you have a piece that was commissioned for a magazine cover, but a different piece wound up running in the published magazine, your piece would still be entered into the “Commissioned” category). This category can include work that was created for books, magazines, institutional, advertising, sequential purposes. Art directors and/or clients will be credited for work in the Commissioned category.
Uncommisioned work includes all self-generated work such as portfolio samples, sourcebook ads and work that is currently unpublished except as promotion for the artist or artist’s representative. There will be no art directors or clients credited for uncommissioned works.
All jurors will assess work in both categories.
