Artmission: Art Auction Benefit & Party for Kerry Talbott

Artmission is an auction and party, organized by Patrick Godfrey of Velocity Comics, to help our friend and colleague Kerry Talbott. It takes place at Ghostprint Gallery, April 30th at 7pm.

If you are interested in donating work to be auctioned off, donations are still be accepted at Velocity comics through Monday, April 23rd. Swing by and talk to Patrick!

If you are interested in buying, work has already been donated by Sterling Hundley (R.I.C. juror this year), Jim Callahan, Ed Trask (muralist and one of the organizers of the G40 art summit in Richmond this month) and Bizhan Khodabandeh (creator of the Richmond Monuments comic), just to name a few.

If you want to know more about the event, the great guy whom it is benefiting, or the awesome friend  who organized it, check out the great article about the event on RVA News!

The Call for Entries for the 5th Juried Show is now closed. Thanks so much to everyone who entered and who helped to spread the word. If you entered work into this year’s show we are expecting to have results sometime in the first week of May.

Check back soon for info on the show opening, June 1, 2012 at Ghostprint Gallery!

April 13th is sooner than you might think! In fact, it’s only a week away, so for your chance at R.I.C. Juried Show glory, enter now!

Also, check out our new FAQ page, which currently answers some of the questions we have received about this year’s juried show, and will eventually also contain answers to general questions about R.I.C.. As always, you can email us with questions, but hopefully this page will help too!

Passed along by our friend Kerry Talbott from his friend Louise Seals:

“I need a poster for Richmond Tree Stewards Arbor Day celebration. Our theme is There’s Treasure in Trees, and we are using a treasure hunt approach to publicity. We were thinking of perhaps a stylized treasure map with the 4 locations of our events — one each Saturday in April: Forest Hill Park, Carillon, Bryan Park and Capitol Square. Sending people to our Web site for all the details is a key element. Would you be interested in doing this? Would you be willing to give us a break on the price or even consider pro bono (not required, though)? We would need it in the next 10 days, or sooner if possible.”

If you are interested, please contact richmond.illustrators@gmail.com and we will put you in touch with Kerry, who will connect you with Louise. *Please note the quick turnaround.*

Heads up – anyone interested in teaching at a university level:

VSU is currently looking for an illustrator to teach two freshmen courses next semester. The Art&Design department is expanding to accomodate the ever-increasing freshmen class, and we’re being fitted with new digs (a new building!). We have a section of 2-Dimensional design (color, line and shape, and image-focused) and a section of Drawing 1 (self-explanatory). 2-D design is in the afternoon, Drawing 1 at night making it so the qualified candidate would only need to come to campus on Monday and Wednesdays.
If your are interested in this awesome opportunity, please contact Meena Khalili.

Check out the R.I.C. tumblr for work from featured artist Jesse Smith! Jesse is a co-owner of Loose Screw Tattoo and Gallery, and is a nationally and internationally recognized artist.

Chroma Shift, a show of work by Leslie Herman and Neal Iwan, is up at Ghostprint Gallery through the end of the month. The events calendar has been updated with this, and new competitions, shows and lectures, check them out and get involved.

Call for entries thumbnailAnd of course, the show you should all be entering; (and encouraging your friends, colleagues, and students to enter)  the call for entries for the R.I.C. 5th Juried Show is in full swing! Enter, and pass along the call through twitter, facebook, tumblr, or even good old fashioned telling people in person.

Time for another R.I.C. Featured Artist! Check out the awesome range of new work by Bizhan Khodabandeh (http://mendedarrow.com).

In other news, the Call for Entries for our 5th Juried Show will be out before you know it! Check back to the site this week for the entry form and to see the great poster designed by Meena Khalili, with an illustration by Shawn Yu (a piece from last year’s 4th Juried Show).
